Stephen O’Donnell is going to be acting as a’ roving reporter’ to attend the Innovation in Recruitment Summit 2013 which takes place on Thursday 19th September at Canary Wharf, London.  Here are his pre-event thoughts.

Whilst all the cool kids of online recruitment are setting out to revolutionise the definition of “the conference”, big business is carrying on regardless. This is especially true for the big hitters of UK commerce, for whom volume and incessant recruitment is an everyday part of business life, which requires as much attention to detail, strategic planning, and excellence in execution as any other profit-centre.  Judging by the speakers and attendee list for the upcoming Innovation in Recruitment Summit, they really don’t get much bigger than this.

Of the scheduled line-up of high-calibre speakers, the following will be the ones I’ll be most keen on attending.

09:45-10:15         Next generation quality of hire

Jacques Bossoney, VP of Kenexa, will examine “Quality of Hire” and how to accelerate it. How culture fits into in your recruiting efforts, and how to leverage your culture to create an engaging employee value proposition. In short; managing your culture and selecting for fit

10:45-11:15         Proactive sourcing; creating the ultimate engagement

Tony Mancino, Autodesk

11:50-12:30         Engaging line managers with a changing recruitment approach

Nigel Toon and Gareth Evans, Allied Milling and Baking

12:30-13:10         Re-evaluating the role of the recruiter and going back to basics

David Brammer, UK Resourcing Manager – Boots Healthcare

This looks likely to be genuinely fascinating. Key aspects examined include; innovating with the data you already have, the importance of allowing recruiters to recruit, and developing stronger pipelines

14:00-14:30         Innovation in social recruitment

Ashley Hever, European Talent Acquisition Manager with Enterprise Rent-A-Car will hopefully delight us with pearls of wisdom on utilising social media to drive attraction, developing your online presence and content through Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and blogs. Then, just as, or perhaps even more importantly, linking social technology with in-house systems, and of course measuring the KPI’s.

14:30-15:00         Transforming recruitment

This could prove to be my favourite presentation of the day, from Sarah-Jane Walker, Head of Resourcing Business Partners, Barclays. I expect this to prompt many questions from the floor, and much discussion carrying through to the networking and refreshments end of the day.

All in all, this looks like a challenging conference, which in my view is the very best kind. I plan to take plenty of notes, and an intravenous drip of warm sweet coffee to keep me going.
