REC says next government must deliver conditions to boost recruitment and prosperityThe next government must deliver the means to continue an economic recovery and boost the UK jobs market, according to the head of an employment body.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), called for the next administration to focus on three issues – public sector reform, economic growth and protecting the country’s flexible workforce.

Although negotiations are ongoing between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg is understood to have met Gordon Brown and the Labour negotiating team for the first time to discuss the possibility of forming a “Lib-Lab” coalition”.

However, Mr Green was clear in his belief that whoever becomes prime minister must focus on “delivering the right economic climate” for business prosperity and boosting the jobs market.

He also called for a “well-executed programme of productivity improvement” and public sector innovation.

The REC’s Report on Jobs for April revealed continued growth of permanent and temporary placements, albeit at a smaller rate than previous months.
