How the Fit for Work scheme works

As of this week, the Fit for Work scheme is available to all full-time employees in the UK.

Designed to help employees return to work after a long absence due to sickness, the free service is backed by GPs across the country. An employee can be referred to the scheme by either their employer or doctor if they have been, or are likely to be, off sick for four weeks or more.

  1. Companies can continue to use their own OH services or make links with local OH services rather than rely only on the new Fit for Work service. Using your own OH will provide you with bespoke support in your business and you will not have to accommodate the generic advice given by this new service.
