Tata, amongst the largest employers in the UK manufacturing sector, will hold its annual Tata Crucible UK Campus Quiz on Sunday, 20th November 2011 at The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Savoy Place, London. The ‘university challenge’ style quiz is an opportunity for the sharpest young minds from across the UK to showcase their intelligence, speed of mind and business nouse to win the celebrated accolade: Tata Crucible UK Championship 2011.

Already an established event in the University calendars in India and Singapore, this is the fourth year that college students from UK universities will compete against each other in the Tata Crucible.

The quiz itself focuses on lateral thinking and fast response, both of which are critical for making a success as a business leader.”

The UK edition of the quiz is open to participants, in teams of two each from the same college/university and they register online for the competition. The desirous teams will then be subjected to a written elimination round of 20-25 questions at the start. Out of these, 8 top teams will then be invited on the stage (normally 6 top scoring teams and 2 teams from a quick wild card round depending upon the number of teams present). The rounds consist of questions from the world of international business and economy, including corporates, personalities, brands, markets, etc. This year’s top prizes* include:

• £4,000 cash prize for first place team
• £2,500 cash prize for first runner-up team
• £1,000 cash prize for second runner-up team
• Trip to India to compete in the International Finals for the top two teams

The Quiz Master, Mr. Giri Balasubramaniam, a.k.a. Pickbrain has successfully conducted the Tata Crucible Quiz in UK for the past three years along with India & Singapore over many years. He is known for his wit, humour and incisive style of quizzing.
The 2010 UK edition of the quiz saw participation of over 125 students representing 20+ leading UK universities including LBS, LSE, Oxford, Cambridge, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bath, Warwick, Aston, Sheffield Halam, Manchester and many others. The top two teams from the UK edition then travelled to India in April 2011 for an international final with the top two teams each from the Singapore and India editions of the Quiz, in which London Business School team took home the crown of international champion.
Tata has more than a century of experience and significant business interests in the UK, comprising 19 companies and a 42,000-strong workforce spread across the region. The companies include some well-known brands such as Tetley Tea, Tata Steel and Jaguar Land Rover.
