An expert on graduate recruitment has stated that university leavers with qualifications in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) will be in demand among employers.
Dan Hawes, co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, noted an increase in bosses looking for these kinds of skills over recent months.
This follows a report from the Confederation for British Industry that revealed concern among employers about whether they can fill posts with candidates possessing the appropriate talents for a given role.
In particular, 45 per cent of bosses admitted to having difficulty recruiting staff with STEM skills and 51 per cent expected such problems in the future.
Mr Hawes informed employers that recruiting graduates, as part of long-term business strategy, is an "excellent idea" for organisations looking to nurture new leadership within their workforce for years to come.
However, he warned that despite an increase in the number of people leaving university with degrees, the level of STEM skilled candidates remained stagnant or possibly dropped when, leaving less attractive options for those looking to hire.
