Apprenticeships 'a great option'The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) has urged both young job-seekers and more experienced workers to consider embarking on a training scheme to gain new skills and boost their job prospects.

A spokeswoman for the NAS welcomed the government's recent announcement of plans to back the creation of new apprentice positions and pointed out that an increasing number of people have been signing up for such initiatives.

"It was great to see the government has announced the largest ever investment in adult apprenticeships," she said. "Adult apprenticeships have been growing, and from the government announcement [on October 20th 2010] they will continue to grow."

The representative added that apprenticeships are "a great option for all ages" and revealed that official figures have showed that 119,400 people have signed up for training projects so far in 2009-10.

In the comprehensive spending review earlier this week, chancellor George Osborne revealed that the government will increase apprenticeship funding by 50 per cent.
