Record vacancies highlight UK businesses’ need to innovate to attract staff

Today’s labour market statistics published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show the number of vacancies at 845,000 for August to October 2018, the highest since comparable records began in 2001 – 44,000 more than for a year earlier and 14,000 more than for May to July 2018.

The UK economy continues to grow, new figures have shown with a record number of people working and the amount being paid in salary also on the rise. However the outlook is not all rosy, there was a rise in the number of people claiming job seeker allowance, although the overall number of those out of work fell.

CVs should be anonymous to improve diversity, says thinktank

CVs should be submitted to employers anonymously to ensure that more British Muslims are employed in top professions in the UK. Demos, one of Britain’s leading cross party thinktanks, made the recommendation in a new report ‘Rising to the Top’, which notes that only 16% of British Muslims are currently in senior roles, fewer people than any other religious group.
