Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co’s Employment team has launched a unique interactive web-based training product which leaves managers better equipped and more confident to handle disciplinary issues.

The training product uses cutting-edge learning psychology and the medium of gaming to create a fun way of helping businesses avoid the cost of employment tribunals further down the disciplinary route.

This is the first in a series of innovative gaming modules developed by the firm working with Cognify, the e-learning technology designer. It focuses on common pitfalls during disciplinary processes and is designed to ensure those chairing hearings gain confidence and make informed decisions.

The firm, Cognify and a number of major employers are already working on modules covering other employment topics including diversity, managing grievances, performance management and absence management, all of which help businesses raise awareness of policies and procedures among staff.

Partner Jonathan Chamberlain said: “Leading HR practitioners are applying the psychology of computer games to learning at work. Gamifying e-learning draws employees in and aligns learning objectives with success in playing.

“It offers businesses a practical and competitive alternative to classroom or ‘click and read’ training methods. This product is ideal for businesses that need to provide HR training to a large number of managers.”

Lead designer and project manager Jemma O’Reilly, an associate in the Employment team, developed the concept to help businesses reduce the risk of employee relations issues and costly tribunals. Jemma has been working alongside client, Karen Hood HR director at Coral Racing, to trial the product, before it went live.

Jemma said: “We’ve had fantastic feedback so far and we are already developing further modules. In fact Coral liked the product so much it committed to buying the first module before it was finalised.”

From employers who have teams working across multi-site operations to those tied to a production process, the products will suit businesses of all sizes and managers from junior level upwards.
