In a recent survey, PMI Health Group found that, while contributory pension schemes are still the most popular employee benefit, this number is decreasing, with 28 percent of workers listing it as their greatest priority for workplace rewards, down from 31 percent last year.

In contrast, childcare vouchers, medical insurance and mental health support are all increasing in value.

Last week’s poll

Discussing wages with colleagues is still a taboo in many workplaces, according to research from the job community Glassdoor. Our last poll asked whether salary transparency is a good idea.

In the run up to the general election in May, some Labour MPs have already brought up the issue of pay transparency, with the aim of closing the gender pay gap in the UK.

On the other hand, thinking of information about salaries and other rewards as a personal contract between an employer and their staff, should employees have the right to keep that information private?

Results so far are really close, with 49 percent of respondents of the opinion that wages are personal and should be kept to themselves, while 44 percent opt for transparency. Seven percent say that they don’t really mind.
