Employers ‘must roll out health and safety training’

health-and-safety-adviceIt is important for all employers to make sure their staff are adequately trained in health and safety procedures.

According to a report on Your Industry News, safety in the workplace is “vital” and all employees – no matter which sector they are operating in – need to be aware of the health and safety policies their company has in place.

It was noted that above all, it is the responsibility of the manager or owner of a business to appoint someone with the right skills and knowledge to manage the training within their firm, as all UK companies are bound by health and safety law.

The website said emphasis should be given to preventing accidents or illness at work, adding: “A positive health and safety culture contributes to a successful working environment.”

Statistics published by the Health and Safety Executive show that more than 200 employees are killed every year following a workplace accident, while over two million suffer work-related illnesses.

To make sure the healthy and safety risks posed within an organisation are clear, it could be crucial to put up posters detailing the importance of workplace policies where they will not go unnoticed, or carry out risk assessments to identify where potential dangers are hiding.

First aid was listed as another important consideration for employers, with the news provider claiming the procedure could help workers that need immediate care. Bosses should delegate the task of being a first-aider to one of their staff and ensure they have been trained by a recognised and esteemed organisation.

One learning provider they could turn to is Virtual College, an online institution based in West Yorkshire that offers a hassle-free solution of training employees in several key areas of workplace policy. With all education based on the internet, it means businesses do not need to break the bank training staff and people can access the material in their spare time.

The firm’s Online Safety Training pack includes modules in Fire Awareness and Health and Safety, while it also boasts a First Aid course that is sure to give learners all the knowledge they need to act fast in the event of an incident that requires their assistance.
